We have been to Payne’s Orchards in Bacchus Marsh a number of times, and it has become one of our favourite places for fruit picking near Melbourne. Depending on the season, we have picked cherries, plums, nectarines and apples here.
Fruit picking at Payne’s Orchards
What we like about Payne’s is the variety. On different visits we have been able to pick fruit straight from the trees, and cherries are probably the biggest reason we keep going back. Plums, nectarines and apples have also been very good when they are in season.
It is an easy family outing from Melbourne, and picking the fruit yourself makes the visit much more enjoyable than simply buying it from a shop.

Check Facebook before going
Payne’s can get very busy, particularly when cherries and other popular fruit are ready for picking. We normally check the Payne’s Orchards Facebook page before leaving because that is where they share the latest picking updates and booking information.
I would check the latest post before making the drive and use the booking link shared on their Facebook page. Fruit availability changes through the season, so the latest update is much more useful than relying on what was available during one of our previous visits.

Would we go again?
Yes. We have already been several times and would happily go again. For us, Payne’s Orchards is one of the best places around Bacchus Marsh for a relaxed fruit-picking trip, especially when cherries, plums, nectarines or apples are available.
