This trip covered Jagannath Puri, Konark Sun Temple, local Odisha food, sweets and the quiet roads around Puri and Nimapada.
Quick summary
- Good for: temple travel notes, Odisha food memories and a Puri-Konark day route.
- Food notes: dahi pakhala, khaja, chhena jhili and chhena poda.
- Travel notes: Jagannath Puri, Konark Sun Temple, local crafts, rice fields and Nimapada sweets.
Jagannath Puri and local food
Puri felt like a mix of faith, food and movement. After visiting the Jagannath temple area, we sat down for a traditional Odia meal and tried dahi pakhala, a cooling rice and curd dish often served with vegetables and sides.

Konark Sun Temple
From Puri, we travelled towards Konark through green roads and woods. The Sun Temple is the main highlight here, with its stone wheels, chariot-like structure and detailed carvings.

Tea, crafts and countryside
Near the temple, there were local craft shops and tea stops. On the way back, the rice fields and monsoon-green countryside gave a very different feel from busy city travel.

Nimapada sweets
Nimapada was the sweet stop from this trip. The local sweets, including chhena jhili and chhena poda, were the kind of food memories that stay with you after the journey ends.

Vegetarian and vegan notes
Many of our food memories from Puri and Konark were vegetarian, including dahi pakhala, khaja and chhena-based sweets. We did not specifically check vegan options, and several dishes may contain curd, milk, ghee or other dairy.
Family travel notes
Puri and Konark can work well as a family route if the day is not rushed. The temple area can be busy, while the Konark side and countryside feel slower and more open.
