Mangalore Food and Travel Notes: Malpe, Pabbas and Local Meals

We moved from Malpe Beach to Mangalore, stopping at temples, local markets and simple vegetarian places along the way. There were also a few ice cream and coastal food stops that I still remember from the trip.

Malpe Beach and the road to Mangalore

Our stop at Malpe Beach was calm and peaceful. One small memory from that morning was spotting a cat with two different coloured eyes.

Mangalore city stops

In Mangalore, we visited St. Aloysius Church and then moved through the city’s temple and food stops. The city felt like a busy coastal town where different communities, temples, churches, markets and old eateries sit close together.

Food notes from Mangalore

Pabbas was the ice cream stop from this trip, and Janata Deluxe on K. S. Rao Road was noted for patrode. The next morning, New Tajmahal Cafe was our breakfast stop for biscuit roti, buns and herbal idli.

Markets, thalis and temples

The local vegetable market, simple thalis at Woodlands, Hotel Ayodhya, and temple visits around Mangalore made the rest of the day feel local and grounded.

Vegetarian and vegan notes

We found plenty of vegetarian food around Mangalore, including temple food, breakfast dishes, thalis, patrode, buns and ice cream. We did not specifically check vegan options, so it is worth confirming ingredients such as ghee, curd, milk and butter before ordering.

Family travel notes

This was a mixed temple, beach, market and food day. For family travel, this kind of route works better when the day is kept flexible because coastal weather, rain and local travel times can change the pace quickly.
