Hyderabad Food and Travel Notes: Charminar, Chai and Family Trip

This Hyderabad and Secunderabad trip took us through Charminar, the old city and several memorable food stops, with both vegetarian dishes and traditional Hyderabad specialities along the way.

This trip covered Charminar, old city markets, Irani chai, Karachi Bakery, Chutneys, Hussain Sagar and food memories from Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Charminar and old city markets

The visit started around the old city during Ramzan, with Charminar, Lad Bazaar, Kapda Bazaar and Chudi Bazaar forming the main travel memory. The markets were busy with bangles, clothes, jewellery, pearls, mehendi, shoes and household items.

Food notes from the trip

Food was a big part of this Hyderabad trip. We tried the city’s famous biryani and some Ramzan specialities, while also stopping at a few places where we found good vegetarian options.

Hussain Sagar and family travel notes

After the busier food and shopping stops, Hussain Sagar, Lumbini Park and the waterfront felt much calmer. I especially remember the ferry and the evening lights around the lake.

Vegetarian and vegan notes

We found a few vegetarian-friendly options during the trip, although many of the food stops we visited served mixed menus. We did not specifically check for vegan options at the time.
