Kutch Travel Notes: White Rann, Lakhpat and Bhuj Crafts

This part of our Kutch trip combined a few separate routes: Bhuj to the White Rann and Bhirandiyara, a longer drive towards Lakhpat, and separate craft stops around Bhujodi, Ajrakhpur and Hiralaxmi Craft Village.

Quick summary

  • Good for: Kutch travel memories, craft village notes and a Bhuj-based road trip.
  • Food note: Bhirandiyara mawa on the route.
  • Family note: the distances are long, so this is better planned as a slow road trip rather than a rushed day.

White Rann of Kutch

We headed to the western tip of India to visit the White Rann of Kutch. We were there around the full moon, and the salt desert looked completely different after sunset.

Food and road-trip notes

This route is better planned as a road trip from Bhuj, with water and snacks packed before leaving. Food stops can be limited once you are moving towards the Rann and Lakhpat, so I would not depend on finding a full meal at every stop.

The confirmed food memory from this part of the trip is the Bhirandiyara mawa stop. For a family trip, carrying fruit, dry snacks or simple vegetarian food from Bhuj makes the long driving day easier.

Bhirandiyara mawa stop

One food stop I still remember was near Bhirandiyara, where we stopped for mawa on the way back from the Rann.

Lakhpat

Lakhpat was a separate stretch of the trip, further away from Bhuj and closer to the border area. It makes sense to treat it as its own road-trip stop rather than grouping it with the Bhuj-side craft villages.

Bhujodi, Ajrakhpur and local crafts

Bhujodi and Ajrakhpur sit closer to the Bhuj side and work better as separate craft stops. This part of the trip was more about block printing, textiles and local craft villages than the Lakhpat road stretch.

Vegetarian and vegan notes

The food stop I remember most from this part of the trip is mawa at Bhirandiyara. It is dairy-based and vegetarian rather than vegan; we did not specifically check for vegan options during this trip.

Family travel notes

The White Rann and Lakhpat involve longer road travel from Bhuj, so they need an early start, water, snacks and a flexible plan. Bhujodi and Ajrakhpur are better treated as separate craft stops closer to Bhuj.

Older Kutch trip video

We also made a short video from this trip. Looking back, what stands out is how the food stops, local crafts and long drives between Bhuj, the Rann and Lakhpat all became part of the same memory.
