Amritsar Old City Food Notes: Pahalwan Kulcha and Jalebiyaan Wala

While walking around old Amritsar, we stopped at Pahalwan Kulche Wala for chole with tandoori kulche and Jalebiyaan Wala in Katra Ahluwalia for jalebi and gulab jamun.

Pahalwan Kulche Wala

At Pahalwan, we had chole with tandoori kulche. I liked the simple flavours and the crispiness of the kulcha. The seating arrangement can be difficult during morning rush, so it is better to go with flexible expectations.

Jalebiyaan Wala, Katra Ahluwalia

At Jalebiyaan Wala in Katra Ahluwalia, we had jalebi and gulab jamun. I liked the crunchy jalebi. The shop could do with clearer directions or signage because it is not always easy to find in the lanes.

Vegetarian, vegan and kid notes

Both stops were pure vegetarian during our visit. Vegan options are not confirmed because sweets and breads may include dairy or ghee. For kids, the chole and some snacks can be spicy.

Nearby tip

Pahalwan, Jalebiyaan Wala and Kesar Da Dhaba are in the inner city. It is easier to reach the area by rickshaw and then walk between the food stops.
