Jaisalmer Food Travel Notes: Gadisar Lake, Havelis and Sweets

This part of the Jaisalmer trip covered Gadisar Lake, Tillon Ki Prol, Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli, Patwon Ki Haveli, breakfast, lunch, dinner near the railway station and local sweets.

Quick summary

  • Good for: lake views, old havelis, family travel notes and simple Jaisalmer food stops.
  • Food notes: kachori, samosa, kulhad tea, thali, dhaba-style dinner, besan laddu and peda.
  • Family note: Gadisar Lake works well as a slower stop, especially around sunset.

Breakfast before sightseeing

We stopped at Shri Ram Sweet Home for breakfast and had kachori and samosa with hot kulhad wali chai. Simple, familiar food, and a nice start to the morning.

Gadisar Lake

Gadisar Lake was one of the calmer parts of the trip. We spent some time by the water around sunset, watched the fish near the arches and took in the slower pace around the lake.

Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli

From the lake, we moved on to Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli. What stood out were the carved details, the elephants near the entrance and the mix of styles across the building.

Patwon Ki Haveli

Patwon Ki Haveli was another stop on the day. I remember it mainly for the detailed architecture and the cluster of old havelis linked with Jaisalmer’s trading families.

Lunch at Hotel Milan

After sightseeing, we stopped at Hotel Milan for lunch. It was a small place serving thalis, with a mother-son duo running the kitchen and serving the food themselves.

Dinner near the railway station

Dinner was at Hotel Marudhar near the railway station. It was a small dhaba-style place near a few lodges, with a mix of families, locals and travellers eating there.

Besan laddu and peda

We also stopped at Dhanraj Ranmal Bhatia for sweets and picked up besan laddus and pedas. A simple stop, but exactly the kind of local sweet shop I like to remember from a trip.

Vegetarian and vegan notes

This part of the Jaisalmer trip has strong vegetarian food notes. Vegan options are not confirmed because several items include dairy or ghee.

Family travel notes

For us, Gadisar Lake was the easiest family stop. The havelis involved more walking, so comfortable shoes and a slower pace helped.
